The BAAS Degree Plan
The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree contains six modules. The modules are:
MODULE ONE:
General Education Core Curriculum Components The following courses or their equivalents are required:
- Communications (9 hours):
- English 1310 and 1320 - College Writing, Parts I & II
Speech Communication 1310 - Fundamentals of Human Communication
- Mathematics (3-4 hours):
- MATH 1315 - College Algebra
or MATH 1316 - Survey of Contemporary Mathematics
or MATH 1317 - Plan Trigonometry
or MATH 1319 - Mathematics for Business and Economics I
or MATH 2321 - Mathematics for Life Sciences I
or MATH 2417 - PreCalculus Mathematics
or MATH 2471 - Calculus I
(see Mathematics Department section of catalog for minimum test scores and/or prerequisites required to enroll in these courses. Students may have to complete MATH 1300 - Pre-College Algebra or MATH 1311 - Basic Mathematics before enrolling in College Algebra).

MODULE TWO:
- Occupational Emphasis (48 hours)
- This module can be completed with academic or technical/vocational transfer work, credit awarded for work/life experience, credit for non-collegiate sponsored instruction (training), or credit for examinations. Occupational Education 4350 (Occupational Assessment) should be taken as early as possible in the program.
MODULE THREE:
- Professional Development (18 hours)
- Professional Development sequences for the BAAS degree are interdisciplinary and individualized to the student's needs. All BAAS professional sequences must contain courses from three academic departments. These courses are selected during academic advisement.
MODULE FOUR:
- Capstone Course
- OCED 4360 - Cooperative OCED Readiness - (6 hour internship)
OCED 4361- Practicum in Cooperative OCED
MODULE FIVE:
- Modern Language (6-8 hours) Students are required to take 6-8 hours of language unless they completed two years of the same language in high school. Students must submit their official high school transcript for this requirement to be waived.
- Electives:
- Seven to ten semester hours of complementary electives are chosen by the student in consultation with the student's degree advisor. The number of electives required are determined by the number of hours needed to meet 128 hours after modules 1-5 are calculated.
PREREQUISITES FOR ENROLLMENT IN OCED 4350:
- An overall academic GPA of 2.25 or greater (excluding Technical & Vocational courses).
- Complete the admission process for Texas State University-San Marcos.
